Country furniture has been called Primitive, but quality early country furniture is only primitive in the sense that the style it evoked when crafted, was not fully developed. The settlers often possessed journeyman if not mastery level carpentry skills. They also had an immense untouched forest from which to harvest walnut, cherry, maple, chestnut, poplar or tulip wood, and of course red, yellow and white pine trees.
Next, the harshness of pioneer life whittled away at the aesthetic of their minds-eye leaving a unique utilitarian style, where form followed function.
Country furniture speaks volumes of our heritage and the legacy of our Fore-Fathers.
